Sleeping is one of the few conditions of the body that is naturally recurring – indeed, no one needs to be taught to fall asleep. That said, sometimes we do need to be taught how to best fall asleep. Yet, taking action and asking for help when sleep doesn’t come easy isn’t always, well, easy.
The doctors and specialists at Iowa Sleep want you to know you are not alone. According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, 40 million people in the U.S. suffer from long-term, chronic sleep disorders, and another 20 million suffer occasional sleep problems.
How do you know when a small inconsistency in your sleep habits becomes cause for concern? There are simple signs that can tip you off, such as: constantly waking up fatigued, when you’re snoring is disturbing your bed partner, or you experience trouble falling and staying asleep. If you recognize any of these symptoms in yourself or someone you know, it may be time to seek professional advice.
At Iowa Sleep, we strive to put you at ease throughout your entire visit. Here are a couple things you can expect during your time with us:
- First, we will sit down and get to know you as a person. We’ll learn about your current daily routine, lifestyle habits and your thoughts on how you’re sleeping.
- Second, we will discuss the concerns you have with your current sleep patterns and habits as well as what brought you in to our office. Since you are the one sleeping and experiencing issues, we will gather as much information as we can to correctly identify the problem and provide solutions to you.
- Lastly, depending on what we learned about your sleep habits, you may be recommended for an overnight sleep study. These studies happen at our offices in private, comfortable suites. Each suite is equipped with a full or queen sized bed, a 32-inch flat screen television and access to a private bathroom. You will also have ample time to prepare for bed and relax.
- If a sleep study is not needed, we will provide you with alternative solutions to address the issue. We will guide you through the entire recommendation process, from start to finish, in order to help you address your issues and get a good night’s sleep.
Sleeping should be one of life’s simple pleasures, not something fraught with worry and anxiety. Our team at Iowa Sleep is committed to get you back on track for a restful sleep, night after night. Learn more about what to expect during a sleep study here.
